The FDA approved the first generic Tadalafil (5-milligram) oral tablet for the treatment of ED in January 2008. The approval will allow Tadalafil to be sold under the brand name Cialis® (branded as Tadalafil) for use as a daily, non-ED drug.
Cialis® is a drug that is used to treat erectile dysfunction (ED), which is the inability to achieve or maintain a satisfactory erection sufficient for sexual intercourse. ED is a common condition in which men have difficulty achieving or maintaining an erection that is firm enough for sexual intercourse. The FDA approved the Tadalafil (5-milligram) tablet and the generic version of Cialis® are the only oral tablets approved for the treatment of ED. The generic version is also the only drug available as a prescription.
